JAN KAČER (born 3 October 1936 in Holice) is one of the most eminent Czech and European actors and directors.
He has graduated directing at DAMU in Prague. He has acted and directed in many Czech theatres, as well as on stages in Oslo, Basel, Zagreb, etc.
He has staged works of Euripides, Shakespeare, Ibsen, Brecht, Chekhov, Goldoni, Gorky, Gogol, Williams, Rostan, Vančura, Nezval, Čapek, and others.
Among others, the cooperation with the representative of the new Czechoslovak film wave, director Evald Schorm is very important in his career. Some of Kačer’s anthological acting creations are the roles in The Death is Called Engelchen (Smrt si říká Engelchen) by Ján Kadár and Elmar Klos, Everyday Courage (Každý den odvahu) by Evald Schorm, The Valley of the Bees (Údolí včel) by František Vláčil and many others. He is the director of the feature film I am Heaven (Jsem nebe) and several TV films.
One of his last roles in the short film Mi(s)sing Dog (Z(s)tracený) by the director Antonio Veljanoski is very interesting.
He is author of three books and a pedagogue with many years of experience.
